1. What Is LED Control Card?

LED control card, also known as LED display controller, can receive image and video signals from computer, and then be responsible for showing the information it receives on the display.

The main task of the LED display control system is to enable the LED display to display the signal source screen by transmitting the signal between the transmitting and receiving boards.

 

1.1 What Is LED Receiving Card?

The LED receiving card, also known as LED receiving board, plays a role in transmitting and receiving signals for LED display module.

The LED display has the instructions received from the computer control software, so it needs to have a receiving card to decode the instructions received and then control the different LEDs on and off.

Whole process will be look like this:

LED sending card will convert and transmit audio and video signals to the LED display through packaging image information and send it to the receiving card.

Then, the receiving card will unpacked the information for image processing. 

 

2. How Does An LED Controller Work?

There will be signal cables such as HDMI/DVI/DP to connect with the computer and controller to transmit video signals between them.

Moreover, USB or Ethernet cables will be used to connect the computer and LED controller to send the control command.

At the end of the routine, the LED display will be controlled by the LED controller through Ethernet cables by different output ports.

3. Two Kinds of LED Control System

3.1 Synchronous LED Control System

The synchronous LED control system enable the display to show real-time contents of the controlled computer.

In general, you can view any content you want to view, since it works with the computer, there are no limitations on the content. 

When you display videos or other media formats on the computer screen, the synchronous LED display shows the same. 

Also, you can choose it to transfer huge volume of data. In short, there is almost no limitation on the imported media formats and storage space of your devices, and you can use it to view your real-time content without any latency.

The using scenarios can be:

(1) 4K LED displays, indoor LED display or outdoor LED display. Both these LED displays may need to import huge data volume.

(2) Rental LED screen.

3.2 Asynchronous LED Control System

Why does asynchronous LED control system come into the market?

Although synchronous LED control system allows you to display anything you want on your LED screens, there are still some disadvantages of this system. 

You may have already noticed that when the connected computer is not working properly or is turned off, the synchronous LED screen also lacks the imported sources. 

Moreover, for those who don’t need to control the content at any point, but only display some repeated advertisements, slogans, notices, and videos, the associated equipment like a computer can be an unnecessary expense and a potential pain point. 

Therefore, asynchronous LED displays were developed at that time.

To use an asynchronous LED display, you can first edit the content on the computer and then send it to the receiving board. 

This allows you to view content that has already been saved directly on the screen. Therefore, there is no need for a computer company that lasts all the time. 

The whole system then has the characteristics of high integration, easy operation and less occupied space.

(1) Some repeated contents such as advertisements, slogans and notices, where playback is relatively short, and where synchronous control system are unnecessarily used.

(2) Small LED screens. 

The typical using scenarios of asynchronous LED control system can be concluded as:

3.4 Differences Between Synchronous and Asynchronous Control System

There is a simple criterion for you to identify the difference, which you may have guessed is whether showing the same content playing on the computer screen. 

To use an asynchronous LED display, you can first edit the content on the computer and then send it to the receiving board.

In addition, there are some other points for you to know: 

(1) The asynchronous system mainly controls the screen via WIFI / 4G, but you can also control the screen via computer. 

(2) One of the most obvious differences is that you cannot play the real-time content through asynchronous control system. 

(3) If the total pixel count is less than 230W, both control systems can be chosen. However, if the number is greater than 230W, it is recommended that you can only select Syn control method.

 

4. Common Troubleshooting of LED Control System

(1) Check the setting of the graphics unit according to the instructions. 

(2) Check the connection of cables such as DVI cable, internet cable, the connection of host control board and PCI connector, etc.

(3) Check the power supply of both control computer and LED screen. When the power supply for the LED display case is insufficient, the screen will flicker when the screen displays the entire white image. 

Then choose the right power supply based on the needs of the showcase. 

(4) Check whether the green indicator of the LED transmission board is blinking regularly. If it flashes, go to step 6. 

If it doesn’t blink, reboot and check if the green light blinks regularly before entering the win98/2k/XP system. If it flashes, go to step 2.

Please check if the DVI cable is properly connected. If the problem is not solved due to the sending card, graphics card and DV cable, please replace them separately and repeat step 3.

(5) Adjust or reinstall the software instruments, then reset until the green indicator flashes. Otherwise, repeat the third step.

(6) Check whether the green indicator (data light) of the receiving card flashes synchronously with the green indicator of the sending card. If yes, go to step 8 and see if the red power light is still on. If it is lit, go to step 7.

If it doesn’t, check the amber light on the power supply. If it is not on, check if the power supply is connected incorrectly or if there is no power output. If it is on, check if the supply voltage is 5V. 

If the green light is off, remove the adapter and cable and try again. If the problem is not solved, it means the LED receiving board has problem. Replace the LED receiving board, and then repeat step 6.

(7) Check if the internet cable is well connected or too long. Please note that the length without a repeater should be within 100 meters. 

If the answer is yes, then you can handle it. However, if the problems are not resolved after repairing, then the problem may be in the LED receiving board.  Replace the receiving card and repeat step 6. 

(8) Check to see if the power light is on. If not, go to step 7 and check if the port of the defined line is compatible with the device board.
